Former UK House Speaker: Brexit is the ‘Biggest Foreign Policy Mistake’Australian…

John Bercow has become best known for saying “Order!” in Parliament. He said it around 14,000 times over his almost ten years as speaker, BBC reported.

Bercow will be remembered for his abundant vocabulary and theatrical shouts.

The role of speaker in the UK differs from that in the United States where the House speaker Nancy Pelosi is a party political figure.

“Nancy Pelosi is almost the leader of the opposition to President Trump, and she does what she does fantastically,” Bercow told NTD.

In contrast, the Speaker of the House of Commons is to remain impartial.

“I wasn’t a member with, connected to, owing any allegiance to, or expressing any thought for any political party,” he said.

While in the chair, John Bercow was sometimes criticized for supporting those who wanted to remain in the EU.

But speaking to media on Wednesday, he said he believes he treated both sides fairly.

No longer bound by rules of impartiality, he called Brexit the “biggest foreign policy mistake in the post-War period.”

He added, “That is my honest view.”

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, a former deputy speaker, took over Bercow’s role this week.
