Scarborough Community Center Receive 1 Million to Help At-Risk Black Youth

Taibu Community Health Centre in Scarborough of Ontario receives $1 Million in funding to reduce the number of school suspensions, expulsions, and school dropout rates among Black students in the Scarborough and Rexdale neighbourhoods.
Member of Parliament for Scarborough North, Shaun Chen, made the announcement on Friday.
“As school trustee in this riding, I know firsthand the challenges that black Youth face, particular young man, black man in our school system,” Shaun Chen said at the news conference, “they are over-represented in school dropouts.”
The funding is part of the National Crime Prevention Strategy, to prevent and reduce crime among at-risk populations and vulnerable communities by intervening to mitigate the underlying factors that put individuals at risk of offending.
The project is expected to serve 60 participants, and overall, the project will engage 300 youth for 5 years.
Rexdale Community Health Centres, Legal Aid Ontario and Toronto District School Board are the other recipients of the funding.
