Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed European Union leaders who arrived in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada on Thursday evening for a summit to discuss global issues, including cooperation on a “Green Alliance” with the EU.

“We’re going to do a lot on the Green Alliance as well,” Mr. Trudeau said, “because on green issues, we’ve been aligned for so long with the European Union in knowing that the economy and the environment don’t just have to go together, they do go together.”

Expected to be included in the Friday discussions will be a focus on hydrogen. According to Canada’s CBC news, the leadership of Newfoundland and Labrador is looking to position the province as a hydrogen-producing and exporting powerhouse.

Attendees at the Thursday dinner included Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European commission, and Charles Michel, president of the European Council.
