The United States announced the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, after overnight strikes in the capital city, Caracas. The operation followed months of increasing pressure by the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump said the United States lost no aircraft and had no casualties in the operation.

Maduro and his wife were transported to the USS Iwo Jima before being flown to the United States to face indictments, including on narco-terrorism. Trump announced that the United States will run Venezuela until “we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition.”
