Medical doctors and scientists discuss critical thinking at Calgary conference.

A Washington state-based veteran pediatrician is encouraging people to “speak out” as she says the cage of communism is spreading globally.
Dr. Renata Moon made the comments during her speech at the 2025 Reclaiming Conference in Calgary. It was the fourth annual conference organized by the group We Unify, which advocates for safeguarding democracy.
Several physicians spoke out about their experiences in the health care system during this year’s event.
Moon, who has been a doctor for 25 years and was a pediatric hospital physician for 17 years, said she was born in the United States after her parents fled communism in Czechoslovakia. She said she visited the county when she was 12 years old, and again as a young adult.
“I saw communism firsthand,” Moon said during her speech.
She added that her mother said she fled communism because her life had “become a living hell under this communist system.”
Moon said that she believed the communist system was making a global come back.
“We’re actually already in it with the early stages of communism.”
She told a story about when her mother was a college student in former Czechoslovakia and witnessed a professor being removed from the college for teaching a subject the communists did not like.
Moon said she believed that would not happen in America, but spoke of her experience opposing COVID vaccines being recommended for children.
“In December of 2022, I was invited by a sitting U.S. senator to speak at a Senate hearing in Washington, D.C. I spoke there, and I shared my anecdotal concerns about the COVID shot being recommended for children,” she told the Calgary crowd.
Moon said she made it clear she was speaking as a private citizen, “not on behalf of my medical school employer where I was a professor, not on behalf of any clinic.”
She said she received a letter from her medical school a few months later that informed her they were investigating her for speaking at the hearing, and for questioning the vaccine for children.
In the end, she said she did not find out about the conclusion of the investigation, but she lost her position.
“As if that wasn’t enough, they reported the content of what I said at that Senate hearing to the medical board to investigate my medical license. Nothing to do with patient care, simply for asking the question that everyone had wanted to know an answer to.”
Moon said that she can “feel the cage of this tyranny coming down over us.”
She said that in the present day, administrators are restricting doctors from apply their expertise for what is best for patients, to the extent that now it’s hospital administrators who are providing care rather than individual doctors.
“We are increasingly restricted in terms of what we need to do with patient care, increasingly funneled into protocol-driven systems,” she said, adding that there is a lack of professional debate and discussion.
Moon also noted that many medical students are being trained to embrace the censorship, and report on professors who don’t follow along.
“They are recording professors. They are telling administrators when there’s a professor who has said something or implied something that is not the mainstream narrative.”
She said it was something that was not just happening in the United States, but also around the world.
Moon said that the system was coming after the next generation.
“They’re coming for this next generation. By they, I mean the system, this entire system, this cage that’s coming down over us, and we need to be in the way.”
She encourages people to teach their children to “speak out and speak up.”
“They have to be part of the solution as they grow up and know that this is not normal.”
She described communism as a liquid cement being poured into a swimming pool and spreading.
“We’re all in that swimming pool, and right now, we can still move around because it hasn’t hardened yet, but once it hardens around us, it’s absolutely too late and we will not be able to move.”
She said that was what happened to her relatives in communist Czechoslovakia, and that people should speak up so that the society doesn’t suffer the same fate.
“Many of my colleagues see this. I know that many people in the public see what’s happening,” she said, adding that many people feel like they will speak up another time, “but realize that if you don’t speak out, you welcome this system of tyranny right in through the front door.”
“So please, absolutely speak out.”
Dr. Hoffe
Another speaker at the conference was Dr. Charles Hoffe, a family doctor from Lytton, B.C., who was charged with misconduct by the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons after promoting ivermectin to those with COVID, and for speaking out against vaccine mandates.

The charges were dropped, and Hoffe said the only explanation he was offered for that decision was “they said that this process has already fulfilled its purpose as acting as a deterrent to every other doctor out there who might wish to spread misinformation.”
“This is the Canada that we live in,” he said.
The Epoch Times attempted to contact the College but did not hear back by publication time.
Dr. Cole
Dr. Ryan Cole from Idaho also noted how things have changed over the past several years.

Cole previously had his medical license restricted by a Washington-state regulator who accused him of sharing disinformation about COVID and breaking medical standards by prescribing ivermectin.“Three things died during the last couple of years: curiosity, care, and common sense,” Cole told the conference.
Cole invited people to ask questions, look out for their own health, and to speak up.
“Always stay curious, always question, always be cynical. Always use your voice.”
“Don’t live your life by lies. Live your life by truth,” he said.
He encouraged people to engage in natural activities for better health.
“Go for a walk in the woods. It literally stimulates your immune system. Get outside, move your body, and sleep.”
He also recommended eating good foods and being kind.
“Being in community is good for your mental health, and when you’re feeling unwell or unhealthy or down, probably the best thing you can do is something for someone else. Show kindness.”
Dr. Varon
University of Houston College of Medicine professor Dr. Joseph Varon said he was called in front of the regulatory body in his state during COVID for prescribing ivermectin.

He also noted that a lot of the scientific material being published at the time had links to pharmaceutical companies.
Varon said he started the Independent Medical Alliance, which has started publishing a peer-reviewed medical journal of its own.
“We need to reclaim science. The only way to reclaim science is by doing something about it. It’s having data that is good, that is also data that can be published,” he said.
Dr. Mallard
Dr. Bonnie Mallard, professor emeritus of immunology at the University of Guelph, started her presentation with a biblical quote of the Apostle Paul from the book of Romans, chapter 12, where Paul writes, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

“They are trying to have us conform to the patterns of this world, but that’s not what we should do. We need to be renewed,” she said.
Mallard, along with a group of other medical and science academics who spoke out during the pandemic years, have started a new company named ImmunoCeutica that focuses on improving “immuno-competence” through immunoceuticals, which are naturally occurring compounds such as vitamins A, C and D, and mushroom glycans. Mallard and her colleagues have published the results of their studies on the compounds in the peer-reviewed science journal Nutrients.
Mallard says she and her colleagues also faced restrictions for speaking out during the pandemic years, and that’s why they launched their own venture.
“We decided we would create ImmunoCeutica where we can do our own independent research and not rely on funding from the government,” she said.
Dr. Hibberd
Dr. Jennifer Hibberd, a pediatric dental surgeon in Toronto, said that she became aware early on during the pandemic about the benefits of ivermectin after she was contacted by a woman whose family had taken it for another purpose right around the time COVID broke out.
She said she tried to share the information with the authorities but got little response and a lot of “pushback.”

She said she and the woman made a YouTube video about the treatment, and then she started having troubles with her regulatory body.
She said that alternative treatments are important.
Hibberd encouraged others to stand away from fear, “because when you have no fear, the sky is the limit. There is no limit,” she said.
